Simone Biles. Need I say more?? A portrait of courage. Someone who put their mental health above everything else - even the Olympics!! When she bowed out of the Tokyo Olympics, she was the recipient of absolutely vitriolic hate by the American public.
Simone withdrew from the Olympics b/c of the twisties (a condition where a gymnast loses where her body is in a particular exercise - and the consequences can be dire) and b/c of her failing mental health. I cannot imagine battling my demons - battling the Beast - in front of an angry, insult-wielding public.
Simone has fought battles against the twisties, against her own mental demons, and against her formerly adoring public. But what Simone has done - what she has managed to do in the past four years is legion. She dealt with Nasser & bravely lodged sexual abuse charges against him.
She overcame the twisties and learned how to ignore her naysayers (or perhaps even drew greater determination because of them). So, be like Simone - chart your course and never apologize for doing it just because others get into your business.
Your number one job is to take care of you. YES, taking care of YOU. It’s like how they tell you on the airplane that you are supposed to put on your own air mask before assisting others. Simone took a step back and put on her air mask. Be like Simone.
